ODD EYE CIRCLE : VOLUME UP IN EUROPE

SALLE PLEYEL - PARIS

SALLE PLEYEL PARIS

La Salle Pleyel, a magnificent concert hall in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, is a place made for music! In its maximum configuration (a hybrid audience of both standing and seated), it can accommodate nearly 3,000 spectators, roughly half the capacity of a venue like the Zenith, which hosted ODD EYE with LOONA last September! It's quite an ambitious size. Screens projected images with the mysterious theme that is characteristic of LOONA and ODD EYE, featuring the moon, stars, and the sky.As for the sound, there was a very significant (unpleasant) surprise in this regard, as the overly saturated bass overwhelmed all the sounds and voices of the three singers, rendering some pieces simply inaudible. Pleyel Hall has seen better days!

Let's the show begin !

This surprise European tour by ODD EYE CIRCLE this summer delighted audiences in four different cities: Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, and London! ODD EYE CIRCLE, the subunit of LOONA that has become a full-fledged group under the MODHAUS agency this year, released their first mini-album in July, titled "VOLUME UP," which also gave its name to the tour. Their catchy debut single, "Air Force One" captured the hearts of both long-time fans and newcomers alike! So, what can you expect from an ODD EYE CIRCLE concert in the beautiful Parisian venue, Salle Pleyel? Let's dive in!

As a tradition, in addition to regular tickets, VIP options were available for fans to meet the group or acquire limited-edition goodies. The concert kicks off with a beautiful introductory video projected onto the screen behind the stage, featuring images of the moon, planets, and the tour poster. The show begins with a series of solo performances that allowed each member to shine, reminiscent of their LOONA days: Kim Lip opens with "Eclipse," followed by JinSoul with "Singing in the Rain," and finally Choerry with "Love Cherry Motion." Then, it's time for some duets! If you were unfamiliar with ODD EYE CIRCLE before, this introduction through solos and duets is perfect. The setlist continues with "Love Letter" (a duet by Kim Lip & JinSoul) and "Puzzle" (a duet by Choerry & JinSoul this time). These five songs establish the framework: each member's individuality shines but becomes even more complete when they come together as a group. Whether they're performing as a trio or the full twelve members of LOONA, the chemistry is undeniable! The girls leave the stage to make way for a VCR (video) where the three members play charades and try to guess words. This marks the end of the first part of the concert, and the audience eagerly anticipates seeing the full ODD EYE CIRCLE group take the stage!

2ND PARTIE

The audience has barely recovered from that friendly video when the first notes of "Uncover" (Mix&Match) fill the air! The seamless transition to "Chaotic" (Mix&Match) harks back to the glory days of the LOONA subunit, which was released in 2017. The crowd enthusiastically supports Jinsoul, Choerry, and Kim Lip during these two nostalgic songs! They greet the audience timidly while remaining focused. Surprise! We're now treated to an international song cover: "Say So" by Doja Cat! Well-known to everyone, the girls do it justice with their talent. The stage comes alive, and the audience joins in. You can sense the anticipation for the live performance of "VERSION UP," and it happens with "Love Me Like"! What a delight! The talk break arrives, and the girls introduce themselves:

"Bonjour, nous sommes ODD EYE CIRCLE! I'm Jin Soul, I'm Choerry, I'm Kim Lip! Thank you for joining us on this European tour in Paris! We are so happy to see you!"

Jin Soul: "Are you having fun?"

Kim Lip: "We're already at the final European date: Paris! I can't wait to see the enthusiasm of French fans!"

Jin Soul: "It's incredible we finally made it to Paris! I really wanted to come to Paris; it's beautiful during the day and at night."

This leads to some exchanges between the members: Jin Soul mentions her memories of Paris from their last tours, which influenced "VERSION UP": "There are songs related to France in our latest album. I felt nostalgic while performing old choreographies!"

Each of them dances for a moment to their own solo songs.

"We prepared some covers; did you enjoy them?"

Kim Lip: "Actually, I put a lot of thought into what I was going to perform, and I chose 'Say So' from the secret playlist. I think I did well! I worked really hard! I felt like everyone loved it."

"It's true, as Kim Lip said, there was a burden to show progress compared to the past. We will do our best and give our all to make good music as ODD EYE CIRCLE."

The girls continue with the concert, and it's time for the much-anticipated "Je ne sais quoi," beloved by the French audience (and for a good reason!), prominently displayed on the stage screen!

3EME PARTIE

The third part begins with a new VCR, showcasing the preparation of OEC in Korea, leading up to their departure for the European tour. From choreography creation to rehearsals and even their training on old songs, the immersion is captivating.

They continue with the setlist, taking a trip down memory lane with "Starlight" from the "Mix&Match" album. The three singers have a wardrobe change, and the ambiance takes on the appearance of a starry night, with the moon illuminating the venue. They follow it up with "Lucid" from "ODD EYE CIRCLE <Version Up>," where this time, the moon is green, as are the clouds, creating an immersive atmosphere for the song.

After the new segment, there's a fresh talk session: "We had a lot of fun filming that video! (Note: referring to the VCR) Could you tell that we were nervous?"

The audience shouts, "Nooooooo!"

"That's a relief! We released our third album and started this tour. Do you want us to share what we've been up to?"

Kim Lip: "I studied the languages of the countries we were going to."

Jin Soul: "As for me, it's a bit off-topic, but I took care of my skin laughs."

They continue with "LOONATIC" (Mix&Match), a group classic, and then the highly anticipated "Air Force One" (ODD EYE CIRCLE <Version Up>). The ecstatic crowd doesn't let up and continues to energize the concert! And they launch into another hit: "Sweet Crazy Love" (Mix&Match).

A final VCR for the road, with new charades, and it's the end of this part, making way for the encore!

ENCORE

Unfortunately, it's already time for the concert to come to an end, but the encore is generous with three songs! They kick off with "My Secret Playlist" (ODD EYE CIRCLE <Version Up>) featuring a fresh wardrobe change and the traditional tour T-shirt! Some lucky fans in the crowd had their phones "kidnapped" for a memorable selfie or video with the girls!

Then, it's time for another hit: "Girl Front" (Mix&Match), with an astonishing castle-themed set. Unfortunately, the sound quality isn't up to par for the song, but the girls do their best!

Jin Soul: "I hope your playlist includes OEC's new songs! See you soon, I love you!"

Kim Lip: "Thank you every time for supporting us from afar. I'll be back. Thank you very much, I love you!"

Choerry: "It was a very significant day for me. Thank you very much, I love you. I want to stay in Paris; I'll be back soon, a little later."

Jin Soul gets the audience ready for a group photo, and then it's time for the very last song of the concert: "Hi High"!

"See you next time; we will be back!"

CONCLUSION

A concert by ODD EYE CIRCLE to showcase their new album is an opportunity not to be missed, especially considering how incredible their "Mix and Match" debut was with LOONA. It's such a pleasure to see JinSoul, Choerry, and Kim Lip take control of their careers, doing what they love, and continuing the mythology surrounding OEC! While the sound may have had its issues, the overall experience was highly enjoyable, with an enthusiastic audience! We hope to see OEC again, whether with or without their fellow members – who knows what the future holds?
